Description
Costa Rica’s Coffee Specialties t-shirt.
Pura Vida T-shirt! Our direct contacts with producers, especially the smaller ones who are most proud of and responsible for the magnificent coffee they produce, enable us to obtain coffees of clearly higher value than commercial ones, but of such a high standard that they are undoubtedly called specialty.
The term “specialty” originated in the 1970s. It indicates coffees with exceptional characteristics due to their having been grown in the best soil, at perfect altitude, with the ripe fruit picked at the right time and processed impeccably.
These coffees are really special! Our role is simply to closely connect (“Closest Connection,” our guiding principle) the coffee farmers with the coffee consumers. This process makes the personal history of the coffee farmer and his farm and the original characteristics of the coffee as evident as possible.
The path between farmer and consumer is long and complex. The producer, almost always unknown, is indifferent to the fate of his coffee, which is “depersonalized” by the presence of numerous intermediaries. The farmer sells to a middleman or a “first-tier” cooperative. In turn, the middleman sells to other, larger pickers, and the cooperative sells to “second-tier” cooperatives to get one way or another to an exporter, who will sell to large importers, who in turn may sell to smaller distributors, and then on to the coffee roastery and finally to the consumer.
We, on the contrary, operate according to our “Closest Connection” guideline principle. Our goal is to make the coffee farmers proud and responsible for the quality of their coffee. With this, we also ensure full product traceability.
The roasting process is carried out in micro-lots of up to 12 Kg. It is done in a totally artisanal process and usually with a lighter degree of roasting.
